Ticket Price Review for Singapore GP

TICKET prices for this years Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix will reflect the current economic climate.

Singapore GP gave the assurance yesterday, and already in the pipeline are offerings like early bird packages, which will offer significant savings compared to last years prices in many popular areas.
We are committed to cater to the demands of all race fans, said a Singapore GP spokesman. In the early bird phase we will also extend the popular one-day ticket on Friday with the lowest price ever to experience the Grand Prix.

While the ticket prices for the public have still to be finalised, all corporate tickets except for the Paddock Club went on sale yesterday. The organisers are confident that premium corporate suites around the 5km street circuit for the Sept 27 race will still be able to fetch top dollar, which is why the price for the Stamford Suite, for example, has gone up. They now range from $5,000-$7,000, an increase of $1,500 and $2,500, respectively.
Said the spokesman: Prices for some were raised because they were not realistic. The Stamford Suite, for example, had the same menu and two viewing spots, compared with other premium locations around the track, but were priced lower. It just wasnt realistic.
Singapore GP will offer a lower entry price point for this years race to attract corporate clients.
We have introduced an option with The Green Room at Turn 3 at $3,388, much lower than the Sky Suite, which remains at $6,500, said the companys spokesman.

Singapore GP also revealed yesterday that they have been given the green light to make adjustments to the circuit.
Turn 1, after the Start/Finish line, and Turns 13 and 14, in front of the Fullerton Hotel and Esplanade, respectively, will be modified to provide more overtaking opportunities, while the entry and exit points of the pitlane will be repositioned, after drivers complained during last Septembers race that the current design could cause accidents.

Tweeked Singapore Circuit in Hopes of more overtakings

The Marina Bay circuit, which plays host to Formula 1s night race in Singapore, will undergo layout changes in a bid to boost overtaking ahead of its second grand prix later this year.
The sports inaugural floodlit race was widely hailed as a big success last September, but organisers have wanted to improve the racing spectacle for 2009 and have now announced track alterations following discussions between themselves, the teams and FIA.

These are headlined by minor changes to turns one, 13 and 14 to try and give drivers a better opportunity to attempt a passing move.
In addition the controversial pit lane entry, which used the exact same piece of track as cars on a flying lap and saw Nick Heidfeld and Rubens Barrichello penalised for an incident there in 2008, and exit will be revised, while improvements to the bumpy track surface will be made between turns five and seven.
While the circuit and the event exceeded expectations around the world, as with any brand new event, there are always things which we now know we can do better, said Singapores technical and race operations director, Michael McDonough.

Minor modifications are proposed on the track, at Turns one, seven and 14 in order to improve overtaking opportunities whilst the main changes will be to the pit entry and pit exit to provide added margins of safety for cars entering and leaving the pit lane.
Organisers say changes to the first corner will involve moving the corner apex and reducing the corner radius in a bid to reduce entry speeds and give drivers more of an opportunity to try an out-braking move into the turn.
And after drivers took advantage of a concrete verge to take a wide line into the corner last year, kerbing will also be installed on the entry so to force drivers to take a narrower line.

Changes at turn 13 will see the previously tight left-handed hairpin, the turn immediately after the iconic Anderson Bridge, altered to increase cornering speeds so cars carry more speed down the next straight into the braking zone at turn 14.
In addition the geometry of turn 14 will be altered to give more overtaking chances under braking.
Meanwhile, the pit lane entry and exit changes will see a dedicated approach lane created, with the vast run-off areas around the final turn reduced, while the exit will be extended past the first turn so drivers now feed back onto the circuit off the racing line at turn two.

Toyota has revised the Aygo for the UK market

Aygo is a success story in miniature. Since launch in 2005 this small but perfectly formed Toyota has amassed more than 100,000 sales a year across Europe, its combination of low cost of ownership, contemporary styling and fun-to-drive character making it a top performer in the expanding A-segment.

Now the factors that have made Aygo a winner have been further sharpened to make it an even stronger proposition. The result is the new 2009 Aygo, on sale now.

The revised Aygo range includes two new feature models, Aygo Blue and Aygo Black, with exclusive equipment specifications, plus the established Aygo and Aygo+, in three and five-door body styles. All are powered by the Engine of the Year class-winning 1.0-litre VVT-i petrol unit, with five-speed manual or MultiMode transmission.

Hyundai Super Bowl Commercials Debut Early!

Being the experts on Super Bowl car commercials, we can do things like bring you the ads before they even air as part of our Super Bowl Ad Watch. Below we have the five advertisements Hyundai will show during and before the big game. Three of the ads will run during pre-show, also sponsored by Hyundai, and "Bosses" and "Contract" will run during the second and third quarters. Our perspective on these new advertisements below.

Title: Contract
Grade: C
Message: Hyundai has your back if you lose your job or income.
Our Take: For people who are freaked out about the economy the message may hit home, but it's just so boring.

Title: Commitment
Grade: C+
Message: If you're willing to commit to Hyundai, they're willing to commit to you.
Our Take: The 'commitment isn't scary' approach of this commercial for the Hyundai Assurance program works better than the "Contract" commercial because it implies we're all in the economic mess together. Still, it's rather boring.

Title: Columns
Grade: B
Message: The Hyundai Genesis won the 2009 North American Car Of The Year, something the automaker is obviously proud of as evidenced by the bragging.
Our Take: The commercial is good and, given Hyundai can afford multiple Super Bowl spots, there's nothing wrong with a little boastfullness. What really sells it, though, is the clip of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.

Grade: B+
Message: By winning the 2009 North American Car Of The Year award we've put BMW and Lexus on notice.
Our Take: Because everyone may not be cool with the idea of buying Korean while the American economy is hurting, Hyundai is smart enough to take aim at the Germans and the Japanese. The portrayals of the two "axis powers" is a bit over the top, but it makes the ad work.

Title: Epic Lap
Grade: A-
Message: You want the Genesis Coupe so badly you'll go to EditYourOwn.com and re-edit your own commercial, which isn't up yet.
Our Take: Yeooooowww! Much like the 2010 Hyundai Genesis reveal, this car is all about power slides and burnouts. What does Billy Corgan of the Smashing Pumpkins have to do with driving an epic lap? We have no idea. But we give the 1990s alternarock icon credit for mixing together a sweet commercial.

New Images and Video for Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro in Depth

It's been quite a journey for the R8 V10, from the various spy pictures to the infamous spy video where the test car accidentally caught fire at the Nurburgring right up until it was officially detailed in early December 2008. That journey ends when it becomes available in Germany from the second quarter of 2009 at a base price of 142,400 (US$183,000).

Click on the video to hear one of the most glorious sounds a petrol engine can make. This is the sound of the Audi R8 V10, the most powerful Audi sports car ever made. The engine is a 258kg 5.2-litre naturally aspirated mill that pushes out 525hp (386kW) and 530Nm of torque. It can rev up to 8,700rpm and achieves a specific power output of 100.9hp per litre . Audi says it will help the car burst from 0 - 100km/h in 3.9 seconds and go on until it reaches 316 km/h (196.35 mph). The Audi R8 V10 is said to return average fuel consumption figures of 13.7 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (17.17 US mpg).

The interior is fitted with fine Nappa leather seats, a Bang & Olufsen sound system and other optional extras that include a Bluetooth interface, front spoiler, a rear diffuser and side blades.

Two transmission options are available; a 6-speed manual transmission and an R tronic sequential gearbox that can be actuated via peddles or the gear lever. R tronic can also be set to change gears automatically. There is a launch control application for both transmissions. Quattro AWD sends power to all four 19-inch wheels (with a rear-wheel bias), which are planted to the ground via 235/35 front tyres and 295/30 rear tyres. Customers have the option of buying ceramic brakes to go with them.

Motorcycle Rims Can Add Glamour To A Motorbike

Motorcycle rims are like a pair of sunglasses; they can add glamour and change the way your bike looks. But you should not limit the utility of the rims to their looks. The rims play a far more important role in the way your bike runs.

There are basically two types of motorcycle rims: solid and laced. In the solid rim, the spokes as well the rim are fused to form a single, circular plate. The metal used here is usually solid aluminum.

Laced rims, on the other hand, are the conventional spoke wheels where a series of spokes are fused to the rim. The spokes add structural strength to the rim and also give the bike an individual look.

The Billet Motorcycle Wheels are also a rage. Here, the wheel unit is carved out of a single block of aluminum. What is interesting is that using computer aided designing, you can carve out really intricate spoke designs. You can also opt for a chrome finish. Billet designs can dramatically alter the look of your machine.

So what kind of rim-wheel combination is best for you?

There is no doubt that it is the laced variety. When you have spokes that attach the rim to the hub, you get better impact absorption than a solid wheel. The absorbed impact is spread evenly across the rim over a wider area because of flexibility. A solid wheel on the other hand is not flexible, so the full impact is absorbed only at the point of impact.

You also need to consider maintenance. Keep your rims in mint condition to avoid corrosion as that can lead to weak points. Since wheels are subject to a lot of stress there is always the possibility of broken spokes and punctured tubes, not to mention mishaps.

It is also a good policy to use rim locks to make sure that the tires dont slip off the rims. You should also make sure that the rim is always aligned. One easy way of doing this is to put the bike on the centre stand and then spin the wheels. Any lateral or vertical oscillation will immediately be noticeable. You can usually knock back a wheel into shape with a hammer and a small block of wood. But if you are not up to it, take it to a mechanic and get it done.

Remember: Keep the rim in shape and your bike will cut a great figure.
