JTG Racing to Cup in 2009?

JTG Racing has big dreams about the future as they may start a Cup team in 2009 and use Chevys instead of Fords. There is no indication that if Brad Daugherty's new partnership within the team has any part in this move. There is also no indication on what Marcos Ambrose future with the team is as he may reamain as a driver with Ford driving for the Wood Brothers in 2009 in the Sprint Cup series.

Ambrose getting ready for Cup

Marcos Ambrose aka "Kangaroo Meat" is getting enthusiastic about making his first Sprint Cup start later on this year. Ambrose had recently completed a test up at Pocono Speedway last week.

It went OK, pretty good, the 31-year-old Australian said Saturday at Dover International Speedway. But it was a difficult place to get in a Cup car for the first time. I went there to get in laps and get a feel for that kind of [Cup] car. We ran in the middle of the pack most of the day. Another few tenths [of a second] would have been nice, but, still, I learned a lot about these Cup cars. The adjustment [from Nationwide to Cup COT car] is as tough as everyone said it would be. And Pocono is about as hard a track to learn as Ive ever seen. I know we have plenty of work to do, but we got better as we went along and got a good feel for where we are.

Ambrose is expected to make his first start later on this month at Sonoma for the Wood Brothers. Ambrose will attempt eight races in the #21 Wood Brothers Ford and four others for his JTG team which competes for in the Nationwide series.

In my honest opinion, I dont think Marcus is quite ready for primetime just yet. His results in the Nationwide Series have not been that impressive and thats taking in the fact that the Sprint Cup drivers are hampering the results, but I figured he would have had a win or two under his belt by now. But with primary driver Bill Elliott retiring at the end of this season and Jon Woods career pedaling quickly backwards, the Wood Brothers need to find a new driver to take control of their car pretty quick or theyll be in big trouble.
