NASCAR considers giving rewards to regular-season winner

Now, for the good news.

After Jeff Gordon led with huge points before the Chase, NASCAR is thinking of giving a bonus to the leader of the regular season.

According to NASCAR chairperson Brian France, he is willing to explore the idea of rewarding the driver who tops the points at the end of the 26th race of the season. Awarding additional bonus points to be used in the seeding, more prize money or a trophy different from the Nextel Cup are just some of the plans.

Gordon had an over 300-point lead, but lost all of it when the field was reset this week for the Chase for the championship. That places him in second place based on the new seeding process. His teammate, Jimmie Johnson, is the new leader taking into account his six regular season victories.
