NASCAR Drivers Disappointed Over COT

NASCARs Car of Tomorrow, which debuted on October 7 at Talladega, did not exactly have a good showing as drivers expressed their disappointment after the race.

Popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. was direct and straight to the point, so to speak. It was really, really boring,'' Earnhardt said after his exit in Sports Illustrated.com article.

Jeff Gordon, who will be Earnhardts teammate next season, shared the same sentiment. "It was terrible,'' Gordon said, referring to the car of tomorrow. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do in a race car. I like to think that I've got pretty good patience, but that's beyond patience. There's just nothing fun about that, but I knew it was a smart thing. I've never yawned in a race car in my life and I yawned back there.''

The problem, as noted by SportsIllustrated.com, is that NASCAR and the racing teams seem quite clueless in dealing with the car of tomorrow. The CoT is a bulkier, larger car developed to enhance safety, and lower team costs by making cars appear identical.

The report also took notice of the big work that has to be done to the car of tomorrow.

"I still think we need to work on this car a little bit,'' Gordon commented. "I think we would never race like that if we didn't have the closing rate that we have, and (with) the bump drafting being so drastic that I think we need to make some adjustments here.

With that note, NASCAR should learn its lesson the hard way.
