New SLC details revealed


In a report issued the last weekend, we learn that the future SLC supercar from Stuttgart will be a limited edition model, with only 6000 cars to be produced until 2013, when the production is scheduled to come to an end. In the same report it is said that the main competitors for SLC will be Porsche 911 Carrera, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and the future McLaren supercar. Price will gravitate around 150,000 euros;SLC will be declined into two variants-a coupe codenamed C197, set to appear for the large public in March 2010, at the Geneva Motor Show;and a roadster codenamed R197, that will hit the roads one year later in 2011. Mercedes-Benz engineers are to develop many clever technical solutions for this long awaited supercar. Along them, it is compulsory to mention a new advanced aluminium lightweight spaceframe technology and a new and more efficient composite brake system. The total weight of the car will be of about 1650 kg, with a mass distribution close to 50:50, meaning 52 % on the front and 48 % on the rear. Power will come from the 6.2 litres naturally aspirated V8 AMG engine, which, specially for the SLC, will develop a staggering 550 BHP, completed by a max. torque of 600 Nm. The supercar will reach 100 km/h within only 3.8 seconds, while the top speed of the future car will stand at almost 300 km/h. As far as the fuel consumption is concerned, the SLC will be quite thirsty-it will "drink" around 14 l/100 km. If we are to talk about the exterior design, it is said that it will be derived from the recently updated SL-Klasse, with certain details like the Gullwing doors, the motorised rear spoiler or the downforce-producing front and rear aprons which will be used to differentiate the SLC from the iconic cabriolet.
