NASCAR Home Depot Humanitarian Award

NASCAR and Home Depot are giving an award of recognition to distinguished members of the NASCAR community who have involved themselves in charitable works and have made an impact in the community. Aptly called the NASCAR Home Depot Humanitarian Award, this awarding ceremony is a first for both NASCAR (the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) and Home Depot, Americas largest home improvement retailer. All exemplary persons belonging to the NASCAR community were eligible for the award.

According to John Ross, vice president of marketing and interim chief marketing officer of The Home Depot, The NASCAR Home Depot Humanitarian Award finalists exemplify the values of volunteerism and charitable giving of time and talent that are fundamental to both The Home Depot and NASCAR. We are proud to recognize and celebrate these individuals who give so much of their time and energy to help others.

Jim OConnell, vice president of corporate marketing at NASCAR, is pleased about the partnership with Home Depot, NASCAR is proud to join with our valued partner, The Home Depot, to recognize an individual in our sport who has given back to the community in a special and meaningful way. The NASCAR Home Depot Humanitarian Award is an innovative way to recognize the efforts of those in the NASCAR industry who show extra dedication and service to their communities and those less fortunate.

Among the finalists are: Spencer Lueders - Nascars Competition and Patent Counsel, he started 24 Hours Booty, a 24 hour road cycling charity event that aims to raise awareness for cancer research and programs. Don Miller - Penske Racings executive officer, jumpstarted Stock-for-Tots a holiday charitable event for Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN). Kyle Petty driver for Petty Enterprises and founder of the Victory Junction Gang Camp, a year round camp which seeks to provide a supportive, safe and medically sound camp environment for children who are afflicted with medical conditions.

The NASCAR Home Depot Humanitarian Award will be given to the chosen finalist at the NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards luncheon in New York City on November 29, 2007. The recipient of the NASCAR Home Depot Humanitarian Award will receive a designed crystal award, 100 000 dollars to the his charity of choice, and a playground at a city of their choice (from NASCAR, The Home Depot and KaBOOM!). The two other finalists will receive a $ 25 000 donation to the charity of their choice.

Its nice to know that NASCAR is now making the move towards being more socially aware. Lets hope that the viewers of Americas most loved and most watched motor sport will be inspired to do the same for their communities, as well.
