Who has the Better Chance at Winning the Championship Cup? Johnson or Gordon?

Jimmie Johnson

Jeff Gordon

It seems like history is repeating itself. Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon go head to head again for the NASCAR trophy in a competition reminiscent of their championship race in 2006. Both NASCAR drivers boast of extensive racing experience and outstanding prowess on the track. But which talented NASCAR driver holds the edge?

In terms of car performance, Johnsons cars have a tendency to start up slow but eventually compensate for the snag during the races final laps. But it is the driver that steers the car and never vice versa and we all know that Johnsons driving skills are highly commendable. Johnsons crew team also appears to be very competitive. Chad Knauss, Johnsons crew chief, is keen and astute while his pit crew and shop staff offers the best that any race driver could ask for.

In terms of driving skill both Johnson and Gordon are impressive. But since his entry into the NASCAR competition in 2002, Johnson has been unstoppable in winning title championships. Johnsons 2007 winning streak mirrors his 2006 triumph, he has again claimed one victory and four runner-up finishes in the final six races to the championship.

Overall, Johnson seems to have a greater edge over Gordon. But whats surprising is that Johnson does not have an idea of how to explain his success. When asked about what his secret to winning is, he says that, "That is the most-asked question and I don't have an answer for you, I'm sorry. I think tracks have something to do with it. There are good tracks that we see in the spring and fall and that has a lot to do with it. I feel that we have no idea. We just show up and we do the same job every week that we always do but there are certain tracks that we are better at. But Johnson isnt about to rest on his laurels just yet. He knows that his new 60 point lead against Gordon is something that he will need to work hard for to maintain. He is quoted saying, We have momentum going our direction right now, but it's only 30 points and if you look at the last two weeks, I've been able to make up roughly 60 points ... Jeff hasn't had bad races the last two events.

So whos gonna be champion? Well soon find out at the upcoming race on November 18 at Homesteads desert track. The race in the Homestead Miami Speedway will be the last event before the next NASCAR champion is named.
