2008 Sprint Sound and Speed

The 2008 Sprint Sound and Speed gala is set to be held in Nashville, Tennessee on January 12 and you can be assured that Darrell Waltrip will be playing a very active role in making the event happen. The 2008 Sprint Cup Sound and Speed event will see a fusion of both country music and the NASCAR tradition. Hence the name, sound and speed.

According to Waltrip, NASCAR has recently seen a change in the genre of music that has come to be associated with the sport. In essence, it has moved far away from the music genre that it had originally started with country music. Waltrip says, Quite honestly, NASCAR has really in my view kind of gone in the wrong direction with their choice of artists and music that they use at some of the races. I think country music is more appropriate for what we do. So this is kind of a nice marriage of traditional old stuff that we've always done -- country music, racecars, drivers.

Fans can expect the participation and presence of famous names from both the NASCAR racing circuit and the country music scene. Among the NASCAR celebrities include, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Juan Montoya, Richard Petty, Kyle Petty, Richard Childress, Clint Bowyer, Ryan Newman, Jamie McMurray, Dave Blaney, Scott Wimmer, David Stremme, Darrell Waltrip and his younger brother Michael Waltrip. Representatives from the country music scene include Alan Jackson, who will be the star of the concert and special guests Taylor Swift and Jason Michael Carroll. Jackson is a famous country singer who has sold over 49 millions copies of his albums. He is also an avid fan of NASCAR and a car aficionado.

All proceeds from the event will go to Kyle and Pattie Pettys Victory Junction Gang Camp, an organization that caters to children with medical conditions.

The day long event called the Backstage Garage Pass will be held at the Sommet Center and a concert will follow at 8pm. Tickets are available at TicketMaster. The tickets to the Backstage Garage Pass cost $20 while the tickets to the concert are at $ 39.50. Tickets for both events come at a cheaper price of $ 54.50.

If you like supporting a good cause, country music is your thing, and racing is a passion. Then come on over to the Sommet Center for the 2008 Sound and Speed gala on January 12.
