CAMS Joins Forces With Singapore For First Ever Night F1 Grand Prix

The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport has been appointed the official race organisation consultant for the inaugural 2008 FORMULA 1(tm) SingTel Singapore Grand Prix to be held next September. The historic event will also mark the first ever night race to be held in Formula One history.

CAMS will work alongside race promoter Singapore GP Pte Ltd, the Singapore Sports Council (SSC), Singapore Tourist Board (STB) and the Singapore Motor Sports Association (SMSA) to provide training and support for the 800 marshals required to run the event.

The CAMS team of senior officials and accredited International trainers have significant experience at the FORMULA 1(tm) ING Australian Grand Prix as well as other major International and Australian motor racing championships. Many of them were also involved in the training of marshals for the FORMULA 1(tm) Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix from 2004 to 2006.

The training and support program will consist of a foundational e-learning component, as well as classroom and practical training sessions, stretching over an eight month period. The online training modules will cover basic marshalling knowledge, protocols, procedures, circuit information and more.

Key Singaporean marshals will also be sent to a number of overseas races, including the 2008 FORMULA 1(tm) ING Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne in March. These key officials will receive specific training and practical experience from their Australian mentors in order to build their race organisation skills and knowledge, as well as to equip them with the ability to train others.

Singapore GP will also be recruiting several senior medical personnel for the event with Dr Carl Le, also from CAMS in Australia, appointed the Chief Medical Officer for the 2008 FORMULA 1(tm) SingTel Singapore Grand Prix.

The 2008 FORMULA 1(tm) SingTel Singapore Grand Prix is the fifteenth round of the 2008 FIA FORMULA 1(tm) World Championship and will run from 26-28 September 2008.
